As daughter of an artist, George Nagel, Patie Savage grew up in a home dedicated to the creation of art as sculpture, jewelry, painted works and even cartoons.  She attended art classes in college but as a young mother, was busy with the lives and needs of her family and their small farm in Central Washington.  As farm life receeds to a fond memory and her children have grown to now raise families of their own, Patie has refocused on her art.  With the guided training from paint master Leonard Wren and ceramic artist Nancy Bingham, Patie has found her own expression of beauty and whimsy in the world.

While currently living on Lopez Island, in the San Juan Isalands of Washington State, Patie Savage draws on a lifetime of places in her artwork.  Children tug on parent's hands while walking beachside, much as she did in her youth in Southern California.  She and her husband, David, raised not only two girls on a farm, but also cows & chickens and any number of farm yard friends.  And yes, just as with her paintings, like family, they all had dynamic names.  As mentioned, Patie & David now live largely on Lopez Island where the scenery predominates both painted and glass works.  There are views of friend's farms and fields, friend's boats, even in some instances, the faces of friends in places most loved by them.  And yes, friend's farm animals, old habits do die hard.  Yet over the last few years, Patie and David spend part of the year in Arizona.  Increasingly, while this region does not belong to her own history, Patie has begun to paint the wind kept secret stories of the forlorn or adandoned buildings of the dry southwestern desert.  Equally, there are landscapes and yes, critters too.

As to the elephants, no one knows quite where or when they captured her imagination, but captured they did.  They can be found in all forms, muralized on the wall above a ballet bar in a painting, in parade in glass, and most majestically in full ceramic form adorned with semi-precious stones and bits of jewelry or heritage lace.
